The journey of Anurag Kashyap’s 'Kennedy' from the Grand Théâtre Lumière at Cannes to the Indian living room has reached its final chapter. In a massive public event at Mumbai’s Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2026 yesterday, the film’s cast and crew officially unveiled the Indian trailer, confirming a direct-to-digital premiere on ZEE5 on February 20, 2026.

The trailer launch at Cross Maidan saw director Anurag Kashyap alongside lead actors Sunny Leone and Rahul Bhat. Speaking to the crowd, Kashyap explained that the film's "Noir" aesthetic was designed specifically to showcase a rain-slicked, shadowy version of Mumbai that is rarely seen in mainstream commercial cinema.

A Career-Defining Role for Sunny Leone

Sunny Leone, who plays the mysterious 'Charlie', has been the center of critical conversation since the film's festival debut. Critics from Variety and The Hollywood Reporter have noted her transformation, calling it a "radical departure" that highlights her depth as a dramatic actress. "Charlie is a character built on silence and secrets," Leone said during the festival panel. "To bring her home to India is a surreal feeling."

"Kennedy is not just a police noir; it is an exploration of redemption in a corrupt world. The Indian premiere is the most important milestone for this film." — Zee Studios Representative

Why It Matters

The success of Kennedy signals a shifting appetite among Indian audiences for high-concept, stylized thrillers. By skipping a traditional theatrical run in India and opting for a massive digital launch, Zee Studios and ZEE5 are betting on the growing strength of the premium "Home Cinema" market. Following the Indian debut, the film is also scheduled for a limited theatrical rollout in major North American cities.
