The project aims to provide premium, high-speed connectivity between hubs like Varanasi, Ayodhya, Puri, and Tirupati.
Connecting the Heartland
The first route, connecting Ayodhya to Kashi, began operations this morning with a 100% booking rate. These specialized trains feature onboard Satvik catering and digital infotainment systems that provide historical and cultural context about each destination. The government has also integrated these routes with the "Swadesh Darshan" scheme, offering all-inclusive packages that cover rail travel, local guide services, and temple-adjacent accommodation.
The Economic Impact
Spiritual tourism accounts for nearly 60% of domestic travel in India. By upgrading the infrastructure from "economy-class" to "premium-express," the government is attempting to attract a higher-spending demographic, including NRIs and international spiritual seekers. This surge in connectivity is already leading to a massive real estate and hospitality boom in cities like Ayodhya and Ujjain.
